Students in TASS (TALC Academy Secondary School) are the types of students who learn best in a small supportive family atmosphere. Our students may have difficulty initially passing the Grade 10 literacy requirement and will benefit from a program that provides intensive preparation for this test. As well, students in our program will not complete the Secondary School Graduation requirements in four years. Our students will spend at least one additional semester in high school. Students who wish to graduate in four years may do so by completing summer school courses.
The typical student in our program could have some of the following:

* a learning disability
* a language impairment
* a communication disorder
* a non verbal learning disability
* Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
* an alternate learning style or learning issues that may prevent a student from reaching their potential in a large impersonal high school environment.

Our students have learning profiles that would allow them to be identified as Exceptional Pupils. A recent psychological assessment will be helpful in terms of the admission process. The curriculum is designed for students who, with individual support, small class size and program modifications and support, are capable of working at the academic or applied level in the grade nine program. Students who may have difficulty with applied level programming will be eligible to take specific courses at the essential or locally developed level. TALC Academy Secondary School (TASS) is not for students who have behavioral issues.

The class size at TALC Academy Secondary School will be small. There will be no more than 12 students in a class.

TALC Academy is a private school for children experiencing difficulty with their education and learning. Our goal is to work intensively with our students and provide individual intervention to address their specific needs, so that they will be able to return to the regular public or private school system as successful learners.
